Christmas, etc.

Our soft trees have come out again. Can the big Christmas tree be far behind? Tsia and I are hoping today will be the day. This year I think she'll really enjoy helping to decorate it. Of course that probably also means she won't be able to stop herself from playing with all the ornaments once they're on the tree, but that's ok.

I'm still really want to make an advent calendar. In fact, I still really want to make one using a bunch of my mitten ornaments, but now I've decided I want to hang them from a little tree like this one on the cover of the Garnet Hill catalog. Isn't it great? The little gifts they used are sweet, too, but I still need to do a whole bunch of mittens.

By the way, if you make a mitten ornament (or two), don't forget to add your creation to the Flickr group!
Mom sent me some photos of the mitten ornaments her embroidery group made to sell at their annual show (I gave them permission to use the pattern as a fund raiser) and if I can still locate the photos I'll add them to the group. It's always fun to see how someone else interprets a pattern, I think.

  2. I'm taking your pattern in to my daughter's Kindergarten class on Friday. I had to find a non-Christmas, winter type craft to do with the children and yours is perfect! And their letter of the day is going to be "M", so it's even more perfect! Thank you! Thank you!

She attends a school in a financially pressed area, and the school has a very low budget for art. I think that they have a resource teacher that gets to each class maybe once a month. And that makes me depressed.

I'll have to remember to take pictures!

  4. The trees are so cute. And I love the little mittens. I, too, wanted to make an advent calender for the kids but since the idea came so late in th eend of November, I didn't make one. But I really like the idea of mittens!

  9. I loved your mitten garland idea so much I just had to have a go! My version is a little bit more 'rustic' than your stylish garland, but it's cheerful! (I put some photos in the flickr group). Thank you so much for sharing your idea and making such a good tutorial- it's bloggers like you who really make the virtual world a better place!
