S turned six the other day, and her birthday fell during a week of school vacation. So the celebration stretched across week, with extra time spent together and a few outings and events scattered across the days.
I can't stop thinking about how quickly she's growing up, which I know is what every parent feels. The pediatrician said she's grown three inches since last year, and her school uniforms are already starting to look short. She's acting so grown up, too. Todd and I have been commenting about how much fun it is to hang out with her. We have great conversations, and she can both take and give a lot of teasing. Five was a really good year, and I think six will be a lot of fun for all of us.
I wanted to track her changing preferences as she matures, so I made up this little "All about me" page that I plan to give her every year on her birthday. She can complete it herself, and we'll save them all so we can look back to see how long her favorite color remains pink and whether she still wants to be a teacher when she's in sixth grade.
You can download a copy of the page if you'd like to use it for your own kids.
Six is amazing! We are quickly nearing seven, so I can look back on the last year with at least a little bit of perspective about what it was like. If I had known what six would be like, I would never have complained about three :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday S!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday S!! Bella's just turned 6 as well, amazing isn't it?

Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [28 Feb 12:00am GMT]. Thanks, Maria
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for 6 -- my oldest is only 7 weeks away from that particular milestone. I have to agree that 5 is (has been?) awesome and that I'm anticipating 6 to be even more fun.
ReplyDeleteSaw you on Saturday with your family but felt like waay too much of a nerd to say hi. Instead I whispered to my husband "I read her blog!". Hope you had a day as lovely as we had!
ReplyDeleteFound you via Posy Gets Cosy. Oh, my goodness, what a great picture of your little girl; it takes my breath away. SIx is such a great age!
ReplyDeleteGotham mom, I wish you had said hi! It would have been fun to meet you. I'm trying to guess where you saw us: the Pins and Needles, lunch, or at one of the museums?
ReplyDeleteAww thanks, next time I will. Walking past on 79th, on our way to cupcakes at Two Red Hens YUM!
ReplyDeleteHi! I found you via The Purl Bee. I have a 10-year-old who is itching to learn to sew. (She made whalebone stays for her American Girl doll using felt and satay skewers.) I think you'll be a wonderful resource as I get comfortable with the sewing machine. I love this questionnaire--would you mind if I linked to it from my blog?
ReplyDeletei love this idea! my son got "the book about me" a year ago, and he eagerly filled in as much as he could. then he rediscovered it a few days ago, and started going through it again, crossing out old information and scribbling in new info. this is a great alternative!
