first day

Isn't it fun (and shocking!) to see, from year to year, how they grow? Every year we take a first-day-of-school photo. And yes, I cried this morning as we brought S for her first day of pre-K. Even though she's been going to preschool for 1 1/2 years now, I got all emotional. Couldn't help it.

And I almost convinced her to wear her new raincoat, but she's still rather attached to this jacket from her older cousin who she deeply admires.

So anyway, this is how the world really works when you're four. According to Tsia:
  • after it lands, someone needs to wipe all the clouds off an airplane.
  • seeing eye dogs drive cars for blind people, who sit in the back seat (like a taxi, I presume?) while the dog takes them where they need to go.
  • A make-up swim class means that everyone puts on makeup before they go swimming.
Tell me your child's world view. I know you've got some good ones.

  4. In the cinema (where we were super early), my 3 year old whines - loudly! - 'Well, have you got the remote control or not?'

Humpback whales swim in the sky. 'Leaf crabs' that live in the trees don't have pincers, they have gentle hands. When my sea life obsessed daughter grows up, she's going to take me to the bottom of the ocean in a submersible, to see angler fish & gulper eels she adores. 4 year old are nuts & divine.

Thanks for the down to earth blog, & beautiful garments. My girl think that the drag & click patterns pages are genius.

Conversation in the car with a four-year-old taking a kitten to the vet. 4 y.o., "Where are we going with the kitten?" Mom, "To the cat doctor, to find out how to help the kitty." Long silence. 4 y.o., "Mom, how will you know what a cat doctor says?"

Quote from a little girl after walking my son's normal, all purpose dog, Atticus. "Atticus is a good blind dog. I close my eyes and he follows me."

  9. I teach kindergarten and I could write a book about all the very funny things my students say. My own daugther was eating steamed crabs and asked if she could have more "chicken of the crab". We still laugh about that one --years later.
