Thinking back, and ahead

It's been over a year since I started this blog, and I thought it would be fun to celebrate a bit. We can use a bit of fun, can't we? I'm often terrible about replying, but I want to thank you all for interacting with me via your comments and emails. It's been so enjoyable to participate with you in this creative online community. I wish I could give you each a gift, so here's how we'll commemorate the occasion:

Leave me a comment with your name, and in a couple of days Kiddo and I will put everyone's names into her summer hat and randomly select two people. Then we'll send each of those two winners one of these little ribbon cosmetic bags, just for the fun of it.

By the way, you're all either too polite or you're as distracted as I seem to be lately.

We entertained some friends last weekend, and as I was setting the table with the embroidered napkins I realized that I reversed the placement of the spoon and knife on my embroidery. I'm not going to fix them, so it'll be our little secret, ok? Apparently when I'm on vacation, I'm really on vacation.

  1. i thought it was charming that you got them reversed, although check back with your daughter in 25 years to see if she knows if the spoon goes on the outside... this may be a pivotal learning (or unlearning) experience for her....

I have been reading your blog for the last several months, and I think this is the first time I've commented. I'm Jen from MonkeyKnits. Your bags are lovely, and the photographs are too! Keep up the good work -- the world needs more beauty!

  6. Whoops! Sorry, posted a half-written comment accidentally.
What i was saying was... that my brain must have been on holiday, too (oh obviously!) because I didn't even notice the teensy placemat faux pas.
In Australia we are all thinking of you today. None of us will ever forget that day.

So, I did notice the spoon, but I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want you to think i was sitting back, smugly, laughing or something. I guess I probably should have said something, but then you don't really know me and I didn't want you to be like, who does she think she is? Anyway, my name is Robyn and congratulations on he blogiversary. Mine is coming up shortly, as well. I did want to say that I made one of those market bags with your modifications and a few of my own. You can see on my latest post. Okay, take care!

  8. Adorable bags! I will never forget that day either. Somehow today hurt more than before -- five years maybe? Your bags are like sweet pieces of cheer on this sad day.

  13. Perhaps you should make some "tutorial" napkins. to my mother's chagrin, I can never get it straight which utensil goes where. Thanks for posting such a bright blog on a sad remembrance of a day.

  14. I didn't learn utensil placement, we didn't even use knives when I was a kid (raised by vegetarian hippies) so it's lost on me! You always do lovely work. May I have my name in the hat? Thanks!

  16. Sorry, I never noticed the reversed place settings. If you hadn't told us I would never have known but don't worry the secret's safe ;)

Hi, I'm a lurker from the UK. I love to read your blog as NY is one of my favourite places. As you share the same crafting interests it keeps my memories of previous visits to your lovely city alive and vibrant in my mind. Thank you.

  19. And here I was thinking you were suggesting a little funny business between the dish and the spoon. I thought I heard they ran away together, but don't quote me on that. xo, Cristina

...actually, it was my kids who noticed the "atypical placement of utensils" (gee, they have been paying attention to my ranting and raving...)very cute towels none the less. I've been lurking for a loooong while, love your site. And let me just say, here on your site, all you women(and men) who blog are simply amazing and I can't imagine that you have ANY spare time soooooo don't even feel like you must respond in any way to this comment (I'm not implying that this comment is even worthy of response, just that I have noticed the "I'm-an-awful-blogger-because-I-don't-have-time-to-contact-everyone-who-comments-on-my-site" angst, and I don't want anyone to feel obligated on my account. I visit your site and many others to add inspiration, creativity and random beauty to my world and I don't expect anything else from any of you talented, gracious, busy folks.
    Thanks for everything!
